The Mediterranean Region of Turkey

The Mediterranean Region of Turkey

Carrying all the delightful characteristics of the same-name sea, the Mediterranean Region extends atone the south of the country with its colorful and charming view. Here, at this "Coast of Turquoise" or "Turkish Riviera", the deep azure waters tone in with the clear blue sky. The ever shining sun reflects its hue on the golden sand of lovely beaches. Wide forests covering the mountains complement the vast green meadows, while fascinating waterfalls accompany beautiful broad lakes.

Within this harmonious atmosphere the Mediterranean Region offers holidays as colorful as the land itself. If you are a sun-worshipper, it is just the right place with the typical Mediterranean climate over its impressive shores. From April to October, sunbathing and swimming are not only possible but warranted, so that you may enjoy the unspoiled bays and clean waters of the popular resorts like; Alanya, Side, Belek or Kemer. Winters are pleasantly mild, despite the snow falling over the high Taurus Mountains rolling from east to west and offer perfect opportunities for winter vacationers, like in Saklikent to the south of Antalya.

If you would like to have a lively holiday full of entertainment and recreation activities, this region is an ideal destination with these touristic centers providing every kind of facility, both in summer and in winter. If you prefer just the opposite type of holiday away from the crowd, noise and the tiring tempo, the same region surprisingly satisfy your needs with the quiet, untouched bays with nice beaches, like the ones at Kas, and Kalkan.

In addition to these contrastingly natural areas, ancient heritages are spread all over this region for sightseers and history lovers. Traces of human settlements dating back to times as earlier as the Paleolithic age are found here near Karain, Belbasi and Beldibi in Antalya. Termessos, Perge and Aspendos, which are the cities of ancient Pamphylia, offer many treasures of the past with monuments from the oldest civilizations.

This is only a part of the fantastic scenery of this region of beauty which appear in every corner. You should come and live the legends yourself, in the middle of the ruins of a rich history. You may discover the interesting places, like caves carved into the mountains, and create your own adventure. You may stride through the streets of little pretty towns, between the houses built in traditional style, or walk around the wide fields adorned with orange trees. But whichever you choose, you will discover the uniqueness of this attractive region, and appreciate the wisdom of your choice for vacation.
